C-V News: Filming Greed

Three stories of interconnection and internegation between creativity and work in modern Ukraine.

C.V. Chandrasekhar is a master of the Tamil Nadu dance form of Bharatanatyam, which distills centuries of traditional Indian temple dance. In this dazzling program, Chandrasekhar draws on his 60-plus years of study to create a peerless performance. Here, he performs numbers from his extensive repertoire, including "Natabhairavi," "Jayadeva, Thillana," "Nattukurinji," "Purandara Dasa," "Ahri Bhairav," "Miscrachapu" and other works.

Emin's video CV is an accompaniment to her work on paper, Tracey Emin CV 1995 (Tate T07632), which is a potted history of the artist's professional and emotional life from conception until 1995. This CV, read aloud by Emin, constitutes the sound-track to the video and provides contrasting background to the visual information on display. As Emin narrates her story of trauma and abuse, mixed with pleasure and success, the video takes the viewer on a journey through the artist's home. The artist is not visibly present in person until the last frames when she appears curled up naked on the floor of her sitting-room at the feet of her mother (who wears black sunglasses and looks away from both her daughter and the camera). Like Emin's handwritten CV, the video constitutes her self-portrait, in this instance adding the component of a journey around the space of her apartment to her narrating voice. -Tate

As he steps inside, the bartender recognizes him with shock, hinting at Jake’s mysterious past and the reasons for his long absence. “Lounder Run” explores themes of homecoming, redemption, and the unshakable grip of one’s origins.

"AA" is a documentary about Akira Aida (mostly known as Aquirax Aida), a japanese music critic who introduced free jazz, improvisation, and progressive rock to Japan. It's based on interviews with 12 critics and musicians who had connections with him. This is a documentary that considers the past, present and future of improvisation.
